Matthew 16:24 – 26
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
To follow Jesus is to literally as the above verse says “to let go of self” this also speaks of letting go of selfish desires. We live in a world full of self-gratification; this world is obsessed with selfish desires; selfish ambition; selfish gain. We live in a selfish bubble where we home in on “ourselves”! All of us have been down this road and continue on down this path.

When we speak to others, we tend put ourselves on a pedestal where we speak of “I have done this” or even statements such as “I am proud of me or us” – to the point where we put ourselves on the “said pedestal” making out that we deserve to be praised or even the “look at me syndrome” which is nothing but pride.
The saying
“pride comes before a fall”
Whether we realize this or not – all of us have put ourselves onto a “selfish pride platform” and there are often times we don’t realise we have done this or are continuing to do so. The following I have mentioned before in a video where a well-known Bible teacher stated on social media in the Summer of 2022 “is your Social Media about you or about God” – that statement has stayed with me ever since! At that time, I was in the process of designing and changing this website where I had a ton of photos of “me” – I removed most of the photos. Also, when I had a particular Instagram account – there were also several photos of myself whereby again, I removed them all.
At the end of the day, we need to be careful who we are serving – this brings to mind another Bible verse which is:
Joshua 24:15a
15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve
Again, this is all about choice, do we choose to lift ourselves up or do we choose to let go of “self” and to follow Jesus. Do we choose to deny ourselves with all of our selfish desires or again, do we choose to follow The One who gave us life in the first place?
Letting go of self is an ongoing daily process which is where we are to always be checking our hearts; as I keep stating, not one of us is perfect and we all sin every single day whether we believe this fact or not and it is fact! – but this is where we are to cry out to Abba Father in repentance and to ask His forgiveness over and over and over again…..
So, my question to you is this – is your life about you or is it about God?
