Who do we put our trust in?
Psalm 146:3 – 5
Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the LORD their God.

There is a clear warning here about who we are not to put our trust in. Powerful people, kings, queens, princes, world leaders etc etc will all let us down at one stage or another. For all of their flowery words and speeches that come from their mouths are to draw us in just like the famous quote “won’t you come into my parlour?” said the spider to the fly. Powerful people are very clever; extremely cunning and will go to any length to try and get what they want from us – literally any lengths. They are very good at manipulating; at scheming; at plotting but with it – they are so very subtle that unless you read in between the lines, you will be drawn in just like the spider draws in its prey so cleverly where once the spider has you in its grip – BOOM it’s over, hook, line and sinker.
This is where another famous Bible verse comes into play which is:
Matthew 10:16
16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless[a] as doves.
The said verse is where Jesus warns us that we are like sheep in the midst of wolves meaning we live in a world full of wolves in sheep’s clothing – where there are plenty of folk who appear to be on our side; who are so convincing with their speeches and their actions that unless we are as wise as a serpent we will be led like sheep to the slaughter.
This dear friend is where wisdom definitely comes into play; this is where we need to be extremely cautious in who we believe in; who we listen to; what we take in that may appear so trustworthy and so rock solid when in actual fact the opposite is the case.
The only person and I mean the only person we should be putting out total trust in is none other than Jesus Christ. Jesus who will never ever let us down as He is always Faithful; always True and who is our Rock and our Firm Foundation.
This is where yet again and I will not stop saying this – and I do believe you know where I am headed with this which is – we are to always keep ourselves grounded and rooted in God’s Word, the more we do this which should be on a daily basis, the more we are anchored in Jesus Christ alone.
